Synopsis

The first movie of Ryotaro Shiba’s best-selling novel “Toge”. In the 3rd year of Keio, the Tokugawa Shogunate came to an end due to the repatriation of the Taisei Hokan, and the feudal lords were divided into the East Army and the West Army.

When the Boshin War broke out, the chief retainer of the Echigo Nagaoka domain, Kawai Tsugunosuke, aimed to be armed neutral, which does not belong to any of them, in order to protect the lives of the people.
